M.A. Knox, Midland Piano Competition

Published on March 16, 2017

Cale and Elise Taylor were selected by their piano teacher, Mr. Mike Lively, to enter the M.A. Knox, Midland piano competition.  Elise played "Elegant Dance" composed by Alexander Reinagle.  She competed against four other students and won first place.  Cale played "Minuet in C" composed by Mozart.  He competed against four other students and won second place.  This was Elise's first ever piano competition.  Cale has now competed in three piano competitions, winning first, second, and second, consecutively.  With the help of Mrs. Kunkel, Mrs. Reid, and Mrs. Yahney in Choraliers and Mr. Lively's piano teaching, Cale and Elise are receiving valuable experiences in music.

Also Lilli DeGroot got 1st place in the M.A. Knox, Midland piano competition. Many of the children of Immanuel Lutheran School also participated in the competition. Hopefully I’ll get more info for next month’s newsletter about these students.

From Pastor Paul

A mighty fortress is our God,  A trusty shield and weapon;
He helps us free from ev’ry need That hath us now o’ertaken.
The old evil foe Now means deadly woe;
Deep guile and great might Are his dread arms in fight;
On earth is not his equal.

With might of ours can naught be done, Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the valiant One, Whom God Himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this? Jesus Christ it is,
Of Sabaoth Lord, And there’s none other God;
He holds the field forever.

Greetings and a Blessed Lententide to you!

A Letter to the Congregation

Dear Family at Immanuel,

I announced last Sunday before the Divine Service that I have accepted the call to be Associate Pastor and Headmaster at Memorial Lutheran Church and School, Houston, TX.  Thank you for your support these past four years as I have served you as Associate Pastor, Headmaster, Teacher and Senior Pastor. It has been an absolute privilege to do so and I will always treasure my time here.

Thank you also for your prayers and support during these past five weeks since I have received the call and been in deliberation. Your support and care have been uplifting and heartwarming.

It was not an easy decision to make. Roswell is our home. When we arrived Kevin was barely walking. Patrick and Molly were born here. Our every day routines and memories revolve around this place and they will stay with us for times to come. The church and school have been the bread and butter of our daily life. We love you very dearly. All of the friendships and relationships that have been forged these past few years are important to us and we hope to keep in touch.

As the next few months continue before we leave, fend off the assaults of the devil with the Scriptures and prayer. You will be tempted, just as I have, to think about the call process, your thoughts and feelings, and our thoughts, feelings and decision in ways that are unhelpful.

Pastors receive calls. This is the way our church works. Pastors serve the church where we are called to do so. God works through means to provide for his people, and this is one way that he does this. Jesus is the Lord of His Church. He will take care of you. He is taking care of you, just as he takes care of his pastors too.

Please continue to pray for us, as well as for Memorial, and especially for Immanuel. As I finish my time here, the process to call a pastor will begin. Trust firmly that God will care for you, just as he always has. Pastor Dimit, our Circuit Visitor, Pastor Cholak, our associate pastor, and the leadership of the congregation will be working together with you and the district to do what is best for the church.

As I mentioned on Sunday, my family and I will be here throughout Lent and the Easter season in order to see the school year through. I look forward to these coming months with you.

In Christ,
